LSOH meeting 3:

LSOH meeting three:

15/04/2021

To start off this meeting, we discussed the designs of the girls we had created after the previous meeting and discussed the similarities within the designs. This included: the hairstyles (such as space buns and braids) and the colours used (this mainly consisted of browns). Paige Goodings, Stephen Allenden and I worked as a team to create a design for one of the girls that included brown eye makeup and lip colour as well as a dropped eye look with some pigtails as the hair.

After that, we had delegated the task of practicing some of the makeup for the character Audrey Two to gain a clearer idea of which colours would compliment each other as well as work on the stage (such as the intensity of the colours). This also helped us to demonstrate good time management skills as we only had a couple of hours to finish the makeup to the best of our ability before attending the first rehearsal of the production. We also had to take pictures of the makeup and send them onto the Teams chat for them to be made into a small moodboard to show to the actors and director.

This image shows the different ideas we had for the lips. This included blood splatter, a smudge of blood and how the lips could develop through the changes (the three images on the left), getting bigger as the character develops throughout the show.

This next image shows the two different ideas we had for the contour. The image on the left shows what the character could look like with only green contour, whereas the image on the right shows what the character would potentially look like with purple/pink contour. Since we planned on doing green eye makeup, we had all agreed that the purple/pink contour would be a better choice however, both options were still presented to the director.

This image shows the four different ideas we all had for the type of eyeshadow that could be used. The image on the top left shows a mix of red and green eyeshadow with a dropped eye and eyeliner. The image on the bottom left shows green and yellow eyeshadow with black eyeliner and a dropped line below the eye as well as using black liner to accentuate the inner corner. The top right image shows dark and light green eyeshadow used with white liner in a triangular shape to accentuate the inner corner of the eye. The image on the bottom right shows light green, dark green and a small amount of red eyeshadow with black eyeliner, dropped bottom line, false lashes drawn on using eyeliner and an accentuated inner corner.

Once someone got to a certain stage of the makeup (such as showing ideas for the changes), we all gave our feedback on whether it was suitable/if anything needed changing. We also took pictures for each other at the different stages of the makeup and sent them onto the chat on Teams. Once we had sent all of the images over Teams, Nina (our tutor) categorized them all onto different pages and printed them off in preparation to be shown to the director. This showed teamwork and collaboration as we all contributed to both doing the makeup and giving feedback on it.

Once all the pages had been printed off, we headed over to watch the first rehearsal of Act 1. Once we had watched the rehearsal, Emily, Kassie and Paige presented our moodboard and ideas to the actors and the director, discussing what they had in mind for each character. This can be seen in the images below.

We collaborated with the actors and they gave us all feedback on what makeup they had in mind for their character(s):

  • The actress playing Mrs Luce pictured her character to be on the more glamorous side.

  • The actress’ who would be playing The Girls wanted matching makeup with different variations of ‘space buns’ for their hair.

  • The actress playing Audrey wanted to have glamorous makeup, but because of her character’s story, the makeup couldn’t be too glamorous.

  • The actress playing Audrey Two wanted to have drag style makeup to match the character.

The image above shows the design for the outfit Audrey Two would be wearing on the production nights, as well as the colour she would be dyeing her hair (she had planned to go a ginger/red colour as well as keeping it long). This helped us to plan the hair and makeup further, especially the colours we could use to compliment the costume.

Pantomime Dame makeup evaluation

For the pantomime dame makeup, I like the outcome of the eye makeup, the orange especially, because I like how it has been blended from dark to light. I also like the eyeliner both on the eyelid and below the eye, including the white, as it enhances the eye shape and size. However, I need to improve on being able to cover up my eyebrows and raising the drawn on ones further up my forehead as they were too far down. I also need to darken the contouring on the cheeks and the jaw. I also think I should darken the outline of the lips too as it isn’t as visible as it should be. This makeup would be suitable for a small and medium sized stage and audience as it can be seen from far enough away. The colours could also work underneath certain stage lights as they wont be blended together. edit: 23/05/2021

LSOH meeting 12:

LSOH meeting 12: 19/05/2021 The day before the production. To start off this meeting, we began by checking through the production folder together to make sure we had everything we needed in there, including face charts, makeup designs, actors headshots and skin consultation sheets. It was important we had all of this in there as it was important we knew what makeup we were doing, how we would be applying it to the actors face and which products we needed to check for and organise. This showed good organisation skills as we were checking beforehand to make sure we had everything ready for the production nights. We then took some time to work in the LRC to polish up our blogs for a little while and add in anything we may have missed; this could include: adding in any missing images and any information on what we had discussed/decided on during previous meetings. It is important to keep track of all of this as it helps us keep track of what we have all worked on throughout the produ...

Little Shop of Horrors - meeting 1:

Little Shop Of Horrors - meeting one: Little Shop Of Horrors is a comedy rock musical and, overall, a love story, but also a warning of what happens if you do anything to get what you want. Seymour, a plant shop worker on Skid Row, discovers an alien-like plant, and finds out that when this plant is fed human blood, things suddenly go right for him. LSOH has a film adaptation that was based off of the musical by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. These are both set in the early 1960’s. However, for the production we will be working on, it was decided that it will be set in the 1990’s instead. To show this, the characters' hair, clothes and makeup will need to be based off of popular trends in the 90’s. To make sure we are able to achieve this, we will all need to conduct some research on this topic to develop our knowledge on 90’s hair, makeup and fashion and produce moodboards, face charts and designs to help with our work on the character makeup designs. These moodboards will consis...
